Examples of Programs We Support

The following are some of the programs we currently support or have recently supported. These programs illustrate the kinds of content and delivery which we feel support our goals.

The initial inspiration for the Mikkelson Education Fund was the MIT Science and Engineering Program for Teachers. We support this program through The MIT Alumni/ae Club of Colorado

The Peak Area Leadership in Science (PALS) is a volunteer run organization in Colorado Springs which sponsors an almost monthly array of learning experiences and field trips for local teachers. This program is supported by both The Mikkelson Foundation and The Mikkelson Education Fund.

We support the genral operation and summer camps for The Challenger Learning Center of Colorado.

We support the attendance of elementary and middle school teachers at The Rocky Mountain Math Teachers Circle, a program to strengthen math teachers problem-solving skills.

We are a primary sponsor of the Colorado Springs Science Festival through Cool Science.

We support The Space Across the Curriculum at The Space Foundation.

We support STEM and financial education from Junior Achievement

The Mikkelson Foundation has sponsored the development and delivery of the New Engineering and Applied Technology Program at The Colorado School of Mines.

We have supported teacher attendance at The Keys to Science Institute, hands on, inquiry based science laerning experience which is run by BSCS.

We provide funding for teacher training at The Frontiers of Science Institute at the University of Northern Colorado. This program brings high school students together during the summer after their junior year to get hands on science experience.

Brian Jones of the CSU Department of Physics runs a traveling science show called The Little Shop of Physics. See if you can get them to come to your school.
